With almost 200 responses in for the SLA 2009 Survey on Financial Literacy, only 38% of schools indicate that they currently have a financial literacy program in place today. Allmost 50% of the group that doesn't have a program today aspire to have one in the next 12-18 months. Given these grim statistics in the face of the urgent need for financial literacy education, I will be developing a comprehensive list of available financial literacy resources. My hope is that by taking the time to do a comprehensive search and an evaluation of existing programs, more schools will adopt financial literacy programs that benefit their students. I am off to a good start in compiling a list, as many of the survey respondents have already provided their recommendations.
If you want to ensure that your financial literacy program is considered for the list, drop me an email at [email protected] and provide the details of your program, links to the pertinent materials and information on how to access your on-line offerings (if applicable). My current plan is to unveil this comprehensive list of available financial literacy resources at the end of October. Just to be clear, this resource list created by Student Lending Analytics will be available at no charge and there will be no cost to financial literacy programs for appearance on the list.
