As noted in an earlier post, SLA received data recently from the Department of Education on new participants in the DL program. Here is a link to the confirmation letter regarding this FOIA request: Download FOIA_DL_Letter.
The request was the following: "You [SLA] requested the names of educational institutions that have recently joined the William Ford Direct Lending Program - only the schools who started disbursing funds for the William Ford Direct Lending Program for the first time after July 1, 2008."
One big caveat as you review the names: Inclusion on this list does not indicate that a specific school has shifted entirely to Direct Lending, at least based on research of the school's financial aid website. For example, NYU is on the list, however, scanning their website, their Stafford Loan page still has a lender list available on it, so it is not apparent to what extent they have implemented DL. Please do not assume that everyone on the list has fully implemented the program as this list does not provide details on the extent the program has been implemented.
Here is a download with the list of 351 schools that made their first disbursement in the Direct Lending program after July 1, 2008, according to the Department of Education: Download 09-00200-F
Please contact SLA if you are interested in a custom research project to verify each school on the list and the degree to which they have implemented Direct Lending.
